Got questions? We've got answers (and a cloth for any spills while you read).
What is a Clard?
A Clard is a greeting card that turns into reusable, washable, compostable cleaning cloths. They read your message, get it wet, and it becomes a cloth that lives in their kitchen for months. Feel good to give, great to get.
How do Clards work?
Write your message inside (a permanent gel pen works best) and mail it in its envelope like any card. When your recipient is ready, they get it wet. It goes soft and super absorbent, and the design stays put.
What are Clards made of?
A sponge cloth made from wood cellulose and cotton, both renewable materials, made in Europe. Flip it over and look for the diamond texture on the back. That's the sign of a quality sponge cloth, not a flimsy knockoff.
Why is my Clard stiff when it arrives?
Totally normal. Clards ship dry, so they're light to mail and need no preservatives to stay moist. Add water and it softens right up.
How absorbent are they?
Very. Sponge cloth soaks up many times its own weight in water, and it's lint-free, so it's great on counters, glass and stovetops.
Are Clards eco-friendly?
Yes. One Clard can replace up to 3,000 paper towels, and used paper towels can't be recycled. Instead of a card that ends up in the trash, you're giving something reusable, washable and compostable.
How long does a Clard last?
With regular use and care, several months.
How do I wash it?
Toss it on the top rack of the dishwasher or in the washing machine, then air dry. No tumble dryer. In a hurry? Microwave it while it's still damp for 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on your microwave. Never microwave it dry.
More tips on our Use & Care page.
Do the designs wash off?
Our designs are digitally printed using water-based, eco-friendly processes, made to last through many washes and uses.
What do I do when it's worn out?
Give it a second job first. Set it under a plant pot to catch drips, or cut it up and mix it into potting soil to help hold moisture. When it's done for good, cut it into small pieces and add it to your home compost. It starts breaking down within weeks and fully breaks down in about six months, depending on your compost.
Can I mail a Clard?
Absolutely. Every Clard comes with its own recycled kraft envelope.
What designs do you have?
Birthdays, holidays, thinking of you, gratitude and more, from sweet to seriously funny. See all Clards.
Can I use Clards for anything besides cleaning?
Yes! Dishes, wiping surfaces, soaking up spills, polishing, even as a plant coaster.
Do you make custom Clards for businesses?
We do. Put your logo on a holiday card that becomes a branded cloth in your clients' kitchens, instead of a paper card that gets tossed in January. Minimum 100. Contact us for a quote.

I was hesitant to try the laundry detergent. I have loved the cloths for so long, so I thought why not. And wow they are great, no mess. I give them as gifts now.
